چکیده

A good designing of the building represents an important factor for the energy economics. The windows represent one of the important elements in the designing of a building envelope. The window’s thermal performances have also a strong influence on the thermal performance of the opaque area of the wall. This fact imposed knowing the way of real interaction, of co-operation and of mutual influence of the characteristics between the two components of the wall of the building envelope, the opaque and the glazing area. This mutual inter conditioning is usually favourable for the window behaviour and very unfavourable for the opaque area of the wall where the window is placed.

Investigating the role of high-rise building shell elements in reducing energy consumption (case example: Isfahan Cascade doctors' residential towers)

Significant energy is used to provide and maintain environmental conditions for thermal comfort in high-rise residential buildings, which largely depends on the components of the shell design. Therefore, to achieve high amounts of energy savings in buildings, high-impact design measures must first be defined and then optimized. This study seeks to answer the question of how the components of th...

بهسازی حرارتی جدار ساختمان‌های موجود در اقلیم سرد در ایران با بهره‌گیری از ویژگی‌های دیوار ترومب

This research is aimed to find an energy optimization method for existing buildings in cold climate regions of Iran. In the proposed system, a secondary skin is installed against the unglazed surfaces of the southern wall, creating a Trombe-wall. The sun-facing wall is then painted in black, and covered with a transparent material like clear glass, leaving a closed air gap between them. The res...

IRANIAN VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE: NOTABLE EXAMPLE OF A THERMAL MASS

In some climates, massive buildings made of stone, masonry, concrete, earth and … can be utilized as one of the simplest and most effective ways of reducing building heating and cooling loads. Very often such savings could be achieved in the design stage of the building and with a relatively low-cost. Such declines in building envelope heat losses combined with optimized material configurati...

Sustainability Driven Trends and Innovation in Glass and Glazing

Increased global urbanization has caused tall buildings to become an inevitable building form making the façade and especially the glazing areas of paramount importance for the overall heat loss and heat gain of the building. The substantial technological advances in insulating glass and glazing systems made during the past 25 years have improved the possibility for designing well-functioning b...

Energy in buildings: Efficiency, renewables and storage

— This lecture summary provides a short but comprehensive overview on the “energy and buildings” topic. Buildings account for roughly 40% of the global energy demands. Thus, an increased adoption of existing and upcoming materials and solutions for the building sector represents an enormous potential to reduce building related energy demands and greenhouse gas emissions. The central question is...
